The 12 things we want to know from Mathias Jensen, Creative Director of Les Deux

One of the things I like the most about Instagram is the opportunity to find new brands within my own personal style that has been flying under the radar of the mass. And one those brands I found last year was Les Deux. Les Deux by all means isn’t a unknown brand, but outside of Scandinavia they maybe not that well know yet. So what style is Les Deux? The style of Les Deux is best described as prep boy Ivy League meets the unpretentious street fashions, which I believe fits great in the smart casual class! And with spring coming how cool is it we can ask Mathias Jensen, Creative Director of Les Deux some questions about becoming a Designer, but also the upcoming Spring 2019 collection?

Q&A time

When did you first realize you wanted to pursue a career as a designer?

I actually became a designer by accident. I was working in advertising when I met Andreas, and I started by doing a few prints for Les Deux. It went well. And then I began doing mere and more categories.

What was the biggest beginner mistake you made when starting as a designer?

I tried to give people what I thought they wanted. Instead of staying true to our DNA.

What is your favorite part about being a designer? 

I still love to see people in the clothes that I create. That still amazing.

If you could go back and tell yourself one thing before beginning your career what would it be?

Less is more. Keep it simple.

What would be your advice for aspiring menswear designers?

Work hard. Keep it simple. Know that you don’t know everything.

What role do you think social media plays in fashion today?

A huge part. Back in the day you had your neighborhood and magazines to take inspiration from. Now instagram and many other social platforms are your new neighborhood/Magazines and you get exposure instantly and response from millions.

How would you describe the core of Les Deux aesthetics?

Danish/Scandinavian with a international twist. Simple silhouettes and high quality.

Who is the Les Deux man?

He’s an educated 25-35 year old who works hard and pursues his dreams and goals in life. He likes the good things in life and look for value for money..

How do you want men to feel when wearing Les Deux clothes?

Certain that he bought something that’s fashionable for many seasons. That he bought a piece of clothing that tells a story of hard work and dedication.

What was the biggest inspiration behind the latest Spring collection?

Breaking free of the ordinary. We have taken inspiration from the Summer of love 1967 in San Francisco.

What did you find most challenging while designing the new Spring collection

It’s always challenging to make your core to fit in with the theme. The balance is difficult.

What can we expect from Les Deux in the future?

Development. We are focusing on expanding our different categories and giving people the unexpected.
